CB350/400 / Re: Oil leak from head.
« on: November 06, 2024, 06:05:26 PM »
My 350F started leaking at the left front. I took the rocker cover off and re-torqued the bolts to a higher torque than specified in the book, about 15% over if I recall. Surprisingly, considering it had only done 600 miles from rebuild, some of the bolts had come very loose. So far after the re-torque it has not leaked (touching wood urgently  ;D ).

If you go to this website AVS image converter is freeware. Works like a charm on all formats including heic.  AVS Free Image Converter is a reliable tool to resize images and to convert JPEG JPG PNG CR2 PDF (avs4you.com)

I've been called a short arse before, maybe I'm really a long arse. ;D  Anyway, I am happy to be able to use the bike after such a long restoration. The other seat can be someone else's problem when I finally decide to sell it.

Steve. If it's cheap enough perhaps we could double the limit. That would help with people posting just 1 or 2 photo's. Anymore and they would probably have to be reduced anyway.

Don't know if this helps as it's not free. I bought a package of software years ago called AVS4YOU. It has lots of useful media manipulation tools, but the AVS image converter tool is superb for changing formats and file sizes. I use it all the time for forums and email's photo sizes. I think there may be a free version of that tool, you would have to check online.

Eyes like a hawk Johnny. Never noticed that thanks for pointing it out, will sort it later. As for authentic, when I sell it the other seat can go back on, until then I want it safe, usable, and comfortable.

Maybe my replica seat was from a different batch or sourced elsewhere, but it was higher than other 750's I compared it with. Had a look at Google images and compared those to the height of the tank badges and it's definitely high. I'm 6 foot tall and can barely touch the floor with that seat on, and with such a heavy bike that's dangerous. It's also way higher than my 750F2. The vinyl is so slippy I'm sliding around under acceleration and braking no matter what trousers I wear.

Sorry that replica seat had to go.

Just posted a thread with four pictures without any problems at all.

CB750 / CB750K seat replacement

Just a word about the replica seats sold by DSS for the CB750K. I bought one of these to use on my restored K5 and have been struggling with it ever since. The problem is they are too high, made from a very slippery vinyl, and are rock hard. This is the seat.

So I bit the bullet and had a new seat custom made by MotoStitch (formerly Nostalgia Seats) at a cost of £220. Just got it fitted today and its about 60mm lower, very soft and comfy, and a good gripping cover. I also think it looks great. What do you think. It makes the bike much safer and easier to ride as I now have both feet firmly on the floor, unlike before. If they are going to make replica's why not make them to the dimensions Honda used. Ridiculous.

Thanks for that. Confirms what I was thinking, and handy that I already have a tub.

Any ideas on what's the best grease for a reduction gearbox on the front of a starter motor?

I certainly learn something every day, usually things I knew a while ago and forgot. Thanks for all the info guys, I will rebuild the starter motor at weekend using the stupidly expensive kit from Wemoto. £118 What!!!  Will keep you posted. Bye the way, resistance reading across the brush terminals shows zero ohms.

I did notice that the gaps in the commutator were totally filled with carbon from the brushes. Is that likely to be the problem? Will test the resistance on the windings tomorrow.

Just checked the resistance on the starter between the live terminal and the case and it's zero on all meter ohms settings. A dead short circuit somewhere, or am I getting it wrong again.

I think I have that attachment on my meter, never used it. Will have a look.
