I'd be wary of using stainless bolts in clamps unless they are stainless as standard, high tensile steel bolts are usually used in such applications, David Silver spares will sell you original Honda bolts for pence, I just got a a set of brake arm bolts for about 70p each from him, not stainless but plated they shouldn't rust for a few years.

CB750 / Re: front mudguard line up problem
« on: March 08, 2014, 02:58:23 PM »
It' a bit hard to tell from the photo's but can the brackets be bent so that the mudguard sits closer to the tyre, the bend would then give greater clearance between the bracket and the tyre, at present the bracket looks like A, can you joggle it to look like B ?. (apologies photo is upside down)

That would be interesting to see, I called him last year but he explained that it was at least a 45 week lead time for his CR750 tank, shows the demand for terrific craftsmanship, nice chap, luckily Holtworks are about to start making them so the lucky first few to order wont have such a wait, it wont be long before they too have a long waiting list though.

Looks like Holtworks will be getting a bit of trade once they get into production!, here's a video of the real thing, incredible the lead that Dick Man gets in the first lap.

CB750 / Re: Honda Britain / PRR Bars
« on: March 06, 2014, 10:44:46 PM »
I know what you mean Mark, I've a problem with my lower back, I've a set of almost flat Renthall bars on My XJR, similar to Lester's pic above, they are really comfortable I can shift weight from legs, to wrists etc. as I feel the need.

As for the CB I'd like the current build reasonable comfy, but when I get to a CR Rep I don't care if its a bed of nails as long as it looks right.
With my XJR I started with 60mm risers and standard bars, then renthal lows, now renthal medium, I still think they need to come up another inch though before I'll be really comfortable, I had a Tiger before the XJR and the riding position was perfect for me, in fact sod it I might just sell the XJR and get another Tiger, I agree re the CR though, it just has to look right, it's not as though it will be used for touring, the ride to the IOM is gonna hurt though!  :o.

CB750 / Why we ride DVD
« on: March 06, 2014, 09:23:24 PM »
I got a copy of the new motorcycling documentary called "Why we ride", it's quite good, trouble is it's a zone 1 DVD so can only be watched on a laptop (by switching over to USA settings), if anyone wants to borrow it PM me your address and I'll mail it to you.

Yeah cheers chaps, I've looked at loads of ace bars, but they mostly really steep bar angles and deep centre sections.

These are the nearest I can find, what do you guys think:

I like ace bars, the only thing to do is buy em and try em, I'm on my 3rd set of bars for my XJR and it still doesn't feel quite right, getting a bike to fit is always trial and error, appearance wise though the bars you pictured look great.

They could have a new design on the way it's hard to be sure, or it could be stock clearance, hard to say, I've been giving it a fair bit of thought but frankly I'm baffled.

CB750 / K7 carb leak
« on: March 04, 2014, 10:45:08 PM »
When I first got my k7/k6 donor bike running I had a fuel leak from the drain tubes, I cleaned the float valves/checked float heights etc but still had a leak from No3 drain, it was only when I swapped float bowls 3 and 4 over and the leak followed the No3 float bowl that I looked closely enough to spot a hairline crack in the thin brass overflow tube in the float bowl, not sure if this is caused by moisture freezing in the tube or vibration but it's not as uncommon as you might think, just thought I'd mention it in case someone else gets this issue.
Top tip - always keep a small fire extinguisher within easy reach whilst working on the fuel system, and remember to put your hands out first! :)
