Wobbly Tacho

My 400f started very easily after 16 yrs - sounds quiet and idling smoothly.

On connecting the tacho it seems the needle is a bit wobbly. I didn't rev the nuts off it but may be it's also reluctant to climb up the dial to show the proper reading, though hard to say for sure: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7lsOTOPVyRA&feature=channel&list=UL

What to do to investigate/fix that?

Sounds like the internal damper, there have been threads on here and on the US site about fixing or i think i saw an ad in Classic Bike

Check the tacho drive cable first, disconnect it from both ends and ensure it revolves freely. If that's OK
remove the tacho and check the drive end revolves freely. If it does not spray some WD40 in the drive end where the cable is attached and turn the drive until it's easy to turn. The problem is that the grease they contain becomes hard with age, often more of a problem with the speedometer as that has gearing to drive the mileage counters.

Ok its the cable. I took the tacho off, put a square drill bit in it directly and it looks fine. Then put the drill through the cable and its wobbly.

Of course the cable feels ok but obviously needs lubricating. What with all that discussion about clutch cables etc what should I use to lube it with?
